Gordon Nicolson Kiltmakers is a small company on a big mission: to reenergise and promote an endangered national craft. Home to the Edinburgh Kilt Academy since 2016, GNK train and employ independent makers to produce traditional handsewn kilts to an impeccable new standard. In just one decade, GNK have become a force to be reckoned with on the highlandwear scene. Their contagious passion and refusal to compromise on quality have won them much affection and respect amongst those who know and love kilts.
GNK’s artisanal accessories channel the accumulated wisdom of several centuries of surprisingly diverse national dress – while made-to-measure jackets and trews enable customers to express themselves within a traditional context. Tartan design services offer a further level of personalisation. Collaborations with fellow champions of Scottish craftsmanship produce collections that are both a little bit different and profoundly authentic.
For last-minute solutions, matching groomsmen and large-scale corporate hires, GNK provides a high-end hire service. Exclusive tartans and a wide range of jackets and accessories afford an unusual degree of choice and an exceptionally polished finish.
GNK is delighted to sponsor the Final Fling, which will showcase five of its exclusive tartans: the John Muir Way, inspired by the coastal landscape of Dunbar, the commemorative Flodden, representing a 500-year milestone in a thread of historic remembrance intrinsic to the City of Edinburgh and the Border Common Ridings, and the official tartans of Celtic Football Club, the University of Edinburgh and the Scotland National Team.
