Highland Ponies are the native pony breed of Scotland. They were originally bred as working ponies and worked on the land. Predominantly they carry the red deer off the hill, but are also used for logging in forestry and farming the land. To this day, the estate still use Highland Ponies on the estate land as working ponies.
The Highland Pony Society have awarded Blair Castle Silver Medal status for both in hand and ridden classes. Classes include working hunter, ridden and in-hand, plus a working harness class.
Entries for Blair Castle Highland Pony Classes will open 10th June 2024.
