BOWMORE BLAIR CASTLE INTERNATIONAL HORSE TRIALS and COUNTRY FAIR

STAR SPOTTING AT BLAIR HORSE TRIALS

Visitors to the Bowmore Blair Castle International Horse Trials and Country Fair from Thursday 21st to Sunday 24th August 2003 will be treated to not only first class equestrian competition but a spectacular Country Fair and over 200 shopping opportunities in the tented village, not to mention a bit of celebrity spotting!
Fans of “Monarch of the Glen” will be thrilled to have the opportunity to meet the “Young Laird” on either Saturday or Sunday, when actor, Alastair Mackenzie is coming along to lend his support to the event and to Blair’s chosen charity, the Childrens’ Hospice Association of Scotland (CHAS). Several thousands of pounds have been raised for CHAS at the event over the last two years with stars such as Ewan McGregor, Sally Magnusson and James MacPherson popping in to enjoy some time at the Horse Trials and Country Fair.
The main ring attraction on Saturday 23rd August will be “A Celebration of the Horse” which includes everything from Shetland ponies to Clydesdales and an arena polo demonstration. Freefall parachutists from the Golden Lions Freefall Display Team will also be dropping into the arena at around 1pm, weather permitting.
The spectacular “Chariots of Fire” team are performing their daring stunts in the arena on Sunday between the CCI *** and CCI* showjumping classes.
The Countryside Arena has a packed programme over the weekend with demonstrations by the Scottish Owl Centre, duck herding dogs and the ever popular terrier racing. It is hoped also to reinstate the clay pigeon shooting competition which used to take place at Blair Castle.
The Woodland Area with its steam train, logging and dry-stane dyking exhibitions proved a popular addition to the event last year and a large new childrens play area is planned for this August.
What ladies could resist the chance to shop ‘til you drop in the tented village. Everything from hand-made jewellery, Scottish crafts, garden furniture, fine art and clothing is available. And when the bags are full, pop into the Bowmore Whisky Tasting marquee to refresh with a wee dram.
