INAUGURAL CROSS COUNTRY RACE AT BLAIR CASTLE INTERNATIONAL HORSE TRIALS

A cross country challenge for two-legged runners was held yesterday at the Blair Castle International Horse Trials and Country Fair sponsored by Technogym who gave out goodie bags to the winners.

The 6km course took in the whole of the equestrian cross country course plus an extra loop – minus the jumps of course) and the winner was local teenager, Myles Bax from Killiecrankie. Nineteen-year-old Myles is currently on a gap year before going to St Andrews University to study International Relations and Languages. He has been working for the horse trials during the summer helping course builder, Irvin Bruce with the fences.

Claire Coupar from Tillicoultry won the ladies 6km challenge while 11 year-old Kirsty Buchanan from Stirling won the 3.5km run with 15-year-old Derek Cob from Glenlyon winning the boys race.

A good turnout for the 2km fun run was led by Andrew Whittington Davis and Lydia Morrison respectively, both from Inverness. They were joined by the ILPH “horse” Harry Hoofit which won a special prize.

All the competitors received completion medals and organizer, Martin Hill said he was delighted with the turnout for the first year and hoped to expand it for next year perhaps involving a charity to raise money for.
