WHISKY CASK SHORTAGE AT BLAIR CASTLE HORSE TRIALS
A shortage of whisky casks almost jeopardised the Blair Castle Horse Trials, but luckily the Bruadar Malt Whisky Liqueur, produced at the Scottish Liqueur Centre in Bankfoot, stepped in with an emergency delivery of fine malt whisky casks.
The casks were needed to build one of the cross country jumps for the new Scottish Open Championships Class, recently added to this major equestrian event, in the grounds of Blair Castle. The horse trials will run for 4 days from Thursday the 27th to Sunday the 30th of August. The Bruadar country fair will run on the Saturday and Sunday.
More than 40,000 visitors are expected to visit the International event. The Bruadar Barrel jump, as it has become known, is the 5th in the cross country section of the Horse Trials. It took 11 casks to build the jump and if filled with malt whisky, would have been enough to produce almost 7,000 bottles of the Bruadar malt whisky liqueur, a combination of single malt Scotch whisky, natural honey and sloe berries. Unfortunately, the casks provided for the jump are empty, but you will be able to sample Bruadar malt whisky Liqueur throughout the event at the Bruadar stand.
Irvin Bruce, the course builder said “The planning and building of the course takes many months. It’s been great building the Braudar fence though, as the fantastic aromas from the casks keeps me going in all weathers – it is such as shame they are empty!”.
